Luna Alshebel was born on September 1, 1975. She is a Syrian broadcaster with a master’s degree in journalism. She previously worked for Al-Jazeera satellite channel. She is currently a media advisor to the President of Syria, Bashar Al-Assad.
Luna Alshebel started her media work on (Al-Mrnat Al-Suri) channel, through programs related to the occupied Syrian Golan, including (From the Darkness of Occupation) and (Oh God, so bear witness) in addition to a number of major talk shows. Then she moved to Al-Jazeera in 2003 and starred in it by presenting the program (for women only), major news tours and the program (Beyond the News).
On May 25, 2010, Luna Alshebel resigned along with four other announcers, the Lebanese Jumana Nammour, Lina Zahreddine, Gulnar Moussa, and the Tunisian Noufer Afli, from Al-Jazeera, for reasons that observers linked to the discrepancy between her position in support of the Bashar al-Assad regime since the start of the Syrian revolution, and the position of Al-Jazeera channel in support of what was called at the time. In the Arab Spring, especially the Syrian revolution against the regime, where Luna Alshebel returned to Damascus, announcing her defection from Al-Jazeera channel, while Bashar Al-Assad rewarded her by appointing her as a media advisor in the Presidency of the Republic, after which she appeared as a guest program on the Syrian satellite channel Al-Dunya, accusing Al-Jazeera ) By betraying the journalistic integrity. She also appeared as a member of the delegation representing the Syrian regime participating in the Geneva 2 conference.
Luna Alshebel married her Lebanese media colleague of French origin, Sami Kleib, who in turn was a broadcaster on Al-Jazeera channel and presenter of the Special Visit program, before moving to Al-Mayadeen channel. Then she married Ammar Saati, a Syrian politician and official close to Bashar al-Assad’s entourage.
