Ragaa El Geddawy was born on September 6, 1938, in Ismailia, Egypt. She is the niece of the famous artist and dancer Tahia Carioca. Ragaa and her older brother (Farouk) moved to Cairo to live with their aunt, who took care of them. She attended the Franciscan School in Cairo, where she learned French and Italian at an early age. She loved reading global literary works in both English and Arabic. Ragaa worked in a translation department of an advertising company before being chosen as a fashion model after winning the title of Miss Egypt in 1958. She also received the title “Miss Dark Cairo” at a carnival in the Andalusian Gardens, which awarded her the “Queen of the Mediterranean Basin.” At the same time, she began her acting career. Some of the films she appeared in include *Doaa al-Karawan* and she performed in theater alongside Adel Imam in *Al-Wad Sayed Al-Shaghal* and *Al-Zaeem*. She also ventured into television presenting, hosting a show titled *Ask Ragaa* with broadcaster Amr Adib.
Ragaa El Geddawy married the former goalkeeper of Ismaily Club and the Egyptian national football team, Hassan Mokhtar, in 1970, and they had one daughter named Amira.
