Juliette Binoche was born on March 9, 1964, in Paris, the capital of France. Her father worked in film directing, and her mother was an actress. At the age of 15, her father sent her to a specialized high school to study the arts, then she enrolled in the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Paris. At 18, she landed a small role in the film “Liberty Belle” in 1983, and then worked to develop her career by modeling for a painter and working as a saleswoman in a department store.

At 24, Juliette Binoche got her first big break when she starred in “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” in 1988, directed by Philip Kaufman. Due to her outstanding performance in this film, she received offers for leading roles in a number of other films. Some of her most famous works include her role in the first part of the famous trilogy by director Krzysztof Kieślowski, “Three Colors: Blue,” her role as a Canadian nurse named Hanna caring for a stranger during World War II in “The English Patient” in 1993, and her role in “Chocolat,” adapted from the novel by author Joanne Harris and directed by Lasse Hallström in 2000. She is considered the highest-paid actress in French history.

Juliette Binoche has a son named Raphael with professional diver André Halle and a daughter named Hanna with French actor Benoît Magimel.
