Biography, Life story

Maria Maalouf was born on November 25, 1968, in Zahle, Lebanon. She comes from a family that has played significant roles in the intellectual and literary life of Lebanon and the Arab world. She studied at the Sacred Heart School and later attended Lebanese University, where she obtained a diploma in social sciences with a thesis titled “The Abolition of Political Sectarianism between Supporters and Opponents.” She is currently preparing a PhD dissertation in political sociology.

She gained fame for hosting the program “Bila Raqib” on New TV. For three consecutive years, she was voted the bravest journalist and received the Woman of the Year award in 2013 at the Zahle Creativity Festival.

She prepared and presented the political program “Bila Raqib” on Al-Jadeed TV, which hosted over 1,400 Arab and Western figures, including presidents, ministers, and prominent personalities over more than 150 episodes. Additionally, she hosted the program “Ma’a Maria Maalouf” on NBN Lebanese TV and “Bila Raqib” on the Libyan channel Al-Mutawassit, as well as an Arab political program on Al-Mahwar Egyptian channel.

Maria was the last journalist to meet with President Yasser Arafat before his death and the first Lebanese journalist invited to meet President Obama after his election, as part of a delegation of businesspeople from around the world. She has interviewed many Arab and international figures, including the President of Bosnia and Herzegovina, former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, American thinker Francis Fukuyama, and U.S. National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski. Her programs have featured many political and economic figures, including former Lebanese Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar and Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi.

She is the owner of Dar Al-Khalij for Printing and Publishing, which issues the cultural, economic, and social magazine “Mir’at Al-Khalij,” as well as the banking magazine “Banko” and other media and advertising activities. She also owns “Maria Maalouf for Press, Printing, and Publishing,” which publishes the daily Lebanese political newspaper “Al-Ruwad.”
