Biography, Life story

Melissa George was born on August 6, 1976, in Perth, Western Australia. She is the daughter of Pamela, a nurse, and Glenn George, a construction worker. Her maternal grandfather, William Ward, worked as a prison manager on Rottnest Island. She is a cousin of opera singer Tyrene Faibish.

She is a former national skiing champion in Australia, and began her acting career playing the role of Angel Parrish in the Australian soap opera “Home and Away” from 1993 to 1996. After moving to the United States, she made her film debut in the sci-fi movie “Dark City” in 1998, and later appeared in supporting roles in “The Curve” (1998) and “Mulholland Drive” (2001).

She also appeared in several television series such as “Friends” (2003), “Alias” (2003–04), “In Treatment” (2008), “Grey’s Anatomy” (2008–09), and “Lie to Me” (2010). She received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “In Treatment.” In 2005, she transitioned to leading roles in films, starting with the role of Kathy Lutz in the remake of “The Amityville Horror” (2005), followed by the thriller “Turistas” (2006) and “30 Days of Night” (2007). She garnered critical acclaim for her role in the film “Triangle” (2009).

In 1988, she met Chilean furniture designer and filmmaker Claudio Dabed in Bali and married him in 1990. They divorced in 2011. Later, she dated hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons and businessman Jean-David Blanc, the founder of AlloCiné, with whom she has two sons, Raphael (2014) and Solal (2015).

George became a U.S. citizen after being granted American citizenship in 2008.
