Biography, Life story
Ahlam Mosteghanemi was born on April 13, 1953 in the city of Constantine in Algeria. Her father’s name is Muhammad al-Sharif, and he was one of the participants in the Algerian revolution, especially the demonstrations of May 8, 1945, which led to his imprisonment for two years and then his loss of work in the municipality.
In her beginnings, she worked on the national radio, which helped her achieve fame as a poet, as her program “Whispers” was very well received by the listeners. In the seventies of the last century, she moved to France and there she married a Lebanese journalist, and in the eighties she obtained a doctorate from the Sorbonne University. She currently resides in Beirut.
Ahlam Mosteghanemi won the 1998 Naguib Mahfouz Award for her novel (Memory of the Flesh). The United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) chose her to become the UNESCO artist for peace and the bearer of the organization’s message for peace for two years.
