She was born, and two years after her birth, her family left Lebanon for London, Britain, where they settled in Gerrard Cross. Her mother, Bara’a Alamuddin, held the position of editor of foreign affairs in the Arab newspaper Al-Hayat, and her father, Ramzi, who returned to Lebanon in 1991, was a former university professor of business studies, and former vice president of the American University in Beirut. She has three younger siblings: a sister named Tala, And two brothers, Samer and Ziyad. Her grandmother is said to have been the first woman to graduate from the American University of Beirut.
