Biography, Life story
Early Life and Background
Amy Adams was born on August 20, 1974, in Vicenza, Italy. She is the fourth of seven children born to American parents Katherine and Richard Adams. Her father was a U.S. Army serviceman, stationed at Caserma Ederle at the time of her birth. The family moved from base to base before settling in Castle Rock, Colorado, when she was eight or nine years old. Her father later became a professional chef, while her mother was a semi-professional bodybuilder. Adams was raised Mormon, although her family left the church after her parents divorced when she was 11. Regarding her upbringing, she stated, “… it instilled a value system in me that I still hold onto. The foundation is helping others; that is what was ingrained in me. And love.”
During her years at Douglas County High School, she sang in the school choir and trained with a local dance company, aspiring to become a ballet dancer. Her parents hoped she would continue training in sports, but she gave up to pursue dancing, believing it would give her a chance to earn college scholarships. Later, Adams changed her mind about not going to college: “I wasn’t one of those people who enjoyed school. I regret not getting an education.” After graduating from high school, she moved to Atlanta with her mother.
Deciding she wasn’t talented enough to be a professional ballerina, she entered musical theater, which she found to be “a better fit for her personality.” After turning 18, Adams motivated herself by working as a waitress while performing in community theater. She took her first full-time job as a hostess at Hooters, a fact she later reflected on, saying: “… and there was definitely a naivete to my interpretation of what Hooters was. So I quickly learned that shorts do not mix with beer!”

Since April 2008, Amy Adams has been engaged to her boyfriend, actor and artist Darren Le Gallo, whom she met in 2001 in an acting class. In May 2010, they welcomed a daughter named Aviana Olea Le Gallo.
