Biography, Life story
Elissa was born on October 27, 1971 in the Lebanese town of Deir al-Ahmar, located in the Bekaa Valley. From a Syrian mother (Yomna Saud) and a Lebanese father (Zakaria Khoury), where her family consisted of 3 daughters (Al-Yassar, Norma, and…) and 3 young men (Ghassan, Jihad and Kamil), and she studied in a boarding school and did not see her family except during the holidays. She joined the Faculty of Political Science at the university Lebanese, but she did not complete her university studies. She was attached to her father, the poet and teacher of the Arabic language, Zakaria Khoury, to a great extent. She joined the Faculty of Political Science at his request, and her father passed away in 2004.
When she reached the age of 16, she became acquainted with the late great artist Wassim Tabbara, who included her in his band “The Chansonniers”, and made her participate in satirical political plays that he authored, and through which she stood in front of the audience on the stage of the “Théâtre de 10 hours”, but she did not She is thinking of dropping out of school to satisfy her father, who stipulated that his approval of her entering art would be after her promise to him that she would take care of her studies first.
Her artistic debut was in 1992 when she participated in the Studio El Fan program, which was shown on the Lebanese LBC channel, and she was still associated with her studies and work in the theater as well, and she was able to divide her time into the three places with great diligence and seriousness, until she won the silver medal from the program.
After the program, she participated in several concerts, until 1999, the year in which she released her first album, “Badi Doub”, with “Lido Productions” and EMI.
In 2018, she participated as a member of the jury of the talent discovery program (Sweet Voice) Season 4, with Assi El-Hillani, Mohamed Hamaki, Ahlam. Presented by the announcer Nardine Farag.
She is considered one of the prominent stars on the Arab singing scene, and she is the best-selling Arab artist. She is also the first Lebanese artist to win the International and Arab Music Award, the only one that she received three times in 2005, 2006, and 2010.
