Biography, Life story
Eva Green was born on July 5, 1980, in Paris, France, where she grew up and partially lives in London. Her mother, the well-known star Marlène Jobert, is a retired French actress who now writes children’s novels, and her father is Swedish dentist Walter Green. Her aunt is Swedish-French actress Marika Green. Eva has a fraternal twin sister named Joy. She has natural blonde hair, but she dyed it black during her teenage years. Eva left the French school at the age of 17 and joined an English school in Ramsgate.
Eva considers herself very reserved. She tends to keep her distance from people she meets, which may be why she loves acting as it allows her to wear a mask. She moved to London in mid-2005, stating that she prefers the village atmosphere and lives alone. She says, “I am French, and I’m lazy; I smoke and don’t exercise. I find dieting stressful.” She thinks of herself as an international actress, speaking French and English fluently, and has also learned Japanese, in addition to mastering the American accent. Eva is an avid museum visitor and enjoys music, films, and listening to classical music and soundtracks while preparing for roles. She also plays the piano.
Filmography
The Dreamers
Eva was discovered in 2002 by Bernardo Bertolucci, who found her “beautiful to the point of being obscene.” She accepted his invitation to star in the film “The Dreamers” (2003), which revolves around a French brother and sister who bond with an American student during the student riots in Paris in 1968. Eva performs extensive nude scenes in the film, which she viewed as natural, although she felt embarrassed when her family watched it, especially since her parents initially objected due to the controversy surrounding actress Maria Schneider after Bertolucci’s film “Last Tango in Paris,” which was accused of obscenity and faced legal battles.
Kingdom of Heaven
Eva played the role of Princess Sibylla of Jerusalem in “Kingdom of Heaven,” directed by Sir Ridley Scott. The film presents an objective vision of the Crusades in the 11th and 12th centuries, with significant events and battles occurring on Syrian land, emphasizing the concept of dialogue and the principle of liberating occupied lands from foreign powers without violence or terrorism, but rather through heroic stances and pride.
Casino Royale
Eva Green is the fourth French actress to take on a role in a James Bond film after Claudine Auger, Caroline Bugie, and Sophie Marceau. She was chosen to portray the lead role of “Vesper Lynd” in “Casino Royale,” the twenty-first film in the James Bond series. Eva Green’s character, a British Treasury employee responsible for the funds Bond will use in his confrontation with his nemesis, received praise from many critics. She won the People’s Choice Award for Best Rising Actress for her role in the film at the 2007 BAFTA Awards.
