Biography, Life story
Jawhara Lakhal was born in Algeria. She studied at the Institute of Information and Communication, Algeria. She worked on Algerian television and then moved to the Abu Dhabi Channel. In 2006, she joined the Moroccan channel Medie1 Tevi as a journalist for news and programming.
In 2018, she was arrested by the authorities of the Hawari Boumeddin airport in Algiers on charges of attempting to smuggle a sum of 48 thousand euros without authorization, when she intended to return to Morocco after a short visit. She was released after being subjected to hours of investigation with the participation of Algerian military intelligence agents. She was prevented from travelling to Tangier to resume her work on the Medi 1 Tevi channel after spending her summer vacation in Algeria. The ban lasted for months before she was eventually allowed to travel.
In 2019, a few months after the arrest, she told her father’s death in Algeria while preparing the newsletter just 10 minutes before entering the newsletter studio to present the afternoon newsletter. She kept her cool as she read the headlines and details of the newsletter, before collapsing after going backstage.
