Her mother, Kathleen, is a homemaker, and her father, Martin Joseph Holmes, is a divorce lawyer. She has three sisters named Tamira, Holly Ann, and Nancy Kay, and one brother named Martin Joseph Jr., making her the youngest.

She gained her initial fame after her role in the television series Dawson’s Creek and later starred in several successful films including Batman Begins, Art House, and The Snow Storm.
