Biography, Life story
Ruby was born on the 8th of October 1980 in Al Mounira, Cairo, Egypt. Her mother was a physical education teacher (games) at Fathia Bahij Preparatory School in Abdeen. She started working through advertisements. Director Youssef Chahine discovered her and chose the name (Ruby) for her. Then she turned to singing and caused a stir with her song in 2003. She worked as a broadcaster on many satellite stations, including: Dream, Al Mehwar. She appeared for the first time through her role in the movie “Cultural Film” in 2000 with a small role, as she appeared in several scenes and her name appeared in the titras, Rania Hussein.
Controversy and fame
Since the appearance of her first video clip, “Inta Aref Leh” (2003), which was filmed in Prague, Ruby has sparked controversy. She made her first role in a cultural movie, and then worked in the movie Scott Hansour, directed by the late Youssef Chahine in 2001, which chose her nickname Ruby, where she played the role of Paula as Latifah’s daughter in the film. Director Sherif Sabry is the one who has sponsored her artistically since he presented her in her first video clip, “Inti Aref Leh.” He also directed and produced her first cinematic starring, a film entitled “Seven Papers Kochina” until the end of the contract between her and Sherif Sabry Production Company in 2007. Her new producer and party organizer is businessman Walid Mustafa, who bought the right to dispose of her artistically from her discoverer, Sherif Sabry, after the end of his contract with her.
Completion of studies at the Faculty of Law
In 2004, she moved away from the artistic scene for a while to complete her studies at the Faculty of Law at Beni Suef University in Beni Suef Governorate. In this, she followed the example of the Egyptian artist Zubeida Tharwat, as the latter retired from art temporarily in 1963 for a period of six years to complete her studies of law and devote herself to taking care of her family, and she returned to acting in 1969. She did not leave criticism and people’s eyes on Ruby during her studies at the university, as some newspapers mentioned the occurrence of problems At the university because Ruby performed exams in “sexy” clothes, which led to opposition from the security to enter her.
Ruby banned from singing
Ruby’s joining the Musicians’ Syndicate sparked controversy, and accusations were brought against Hassan Abu Al-Saud, the head of the Musicians’ Syndicate at the time. Nabih al-Wahsh, a lawyer, filed a case against Abu al-Saud, protesting his inclusion of Ruby in the Syndicate of Musical Professions in 2004, but he did not succeed at that time. And in 2007, the State Commissioners Authority in the Administrative Court of the State Council in Egypt issued a decision obligating Hassan Abu Al-Saud to remove Rania Hussein Muhammad Tawfiq’s membership and thus remove her name from the union’s registration list, and this was the result of Nabih Al-Wahsh’s continuous attempts in this field.
Sabah Obeid, the head of the Syrian Artists Syndicate, issued a 2007 decision banning Ruby, Elissa, and Haifa Wehbe from singing in Syria. Obaid said that the reason was to reduce “nudity and indecency,” as he put it. As a result, Sabah Obeid resigned in 2008, and artistic sources suggested that he was under pressure for his floundering decisions with the three artists and other Syrian artists such as Mayada Al-Hanawi and George Wassouf because of their delay in paying the annual union fees.

Ruby married the Egyptian director “Sameh Abdel Aziz” in 2014, and they had one daughter with him, named “Tiba”, but soon divorced him in 2015.
