Russell Crowe was born on April 7, 1964, in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. He is a graduate of Auckland Grammar School. Crowe began his acting career in Australia, where he starred in several Australian films, including the critically acclaimed “Romper Stomper.” After this film, American actress Sharon Stone invited him to co-star in “The Quick & The Dead,” alongside Gene Hackman and Leonardo DiCaprio. However, this movie did not perform well at the box office.
In 1995, Crowe starred in the sci-fi film “Virtuosity” alongside Denzel Washington, followed by several lesser-known films such as “Rough Magic” (1995) and “No Way Back” (1996). His breakthrough role came in 1997, when he played a police officer in “L.A. Confidential.” After returning to Australia for “Heaven’s Burning,” he resumed acting in the U.S., starring opposite Salma Hayek in “Breaking Up.” Crowe took a brief hiatus from acting, returning in 1999 to star in “Mystery, Alaska” directed by Jay Roach.
