She gained fame through her role as Brenda Walsh in the television series Beverly Hills, 90210, and later as Prue Halliwell in Charmed. She starred in several films such as Little House on the Prairie and Heathers, and gained recognition in television drama through the series Our House, which aired from 1986 to 1988. She also appeared in guest roles, including an episode of Magnum, P.I.

Shannen married Ashley Hamilton in 1993 but divorced him in 1994 after a brief six-month marriage. She later married Rick Salomon in 2002, but they also separated quickly in 2003.
