Sıla Gençoğlu was born on June 17, 1980, in Denizli, southwestern Turkey. At the age of 13, she moved with her family to the Izmir region, where she spent her teenage years. Sila showed a strong interest in music from a young age while studying French at Bilgi University in Istanbul.
